 George Thomas Dight

14 August 1938 – 18 April 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of George Thomas Dight, beloved husband, dad, poppa, brother, uncle and friend to so many.

George passed away peacefully on 18 April 2024, aged 85, with his usual good humour and surrounded by his loving family. He will be missed hugely by all of us.

George attended St Mary’s 1949-57 and, we believe, attended the original school beside St Lawrence’s and the new site on Chislehurst Rd. He was not only taught French by Mr ‘Spike’ Wilkinson (French) but also Jacqui, his second daughter, (St Joseph’s Convent 1977-79/St Mary and St Joseph’s 1979-83) was also taught by Spike. George played football and was an ace goalie playing for the 1st XI and his footballing career continued for decades after when he played in goal for the parents of the village youth club in Hartley, Kent where his first daughter Angie attended.

George started at St Mary’s at the same time as Wilfred Lockwood and he and Wilfred travelled around France together when they were either in or just finished the sixth form. George later became a successful accountant and married Eleanor
