1st XV 1964/65

We might need a bit of help with the names on this great photograph. It’s been kindly shared by John Parker who now lives in Melbourne after leaving St Mary’s in 1965 and first emigrating to South Africa.
John came to St Mary’s in 1962 with his younger brother, Brian, and the two were recently featured in the Where Are They Now section.
This photograph is unusual in that it’s in colour. It looks like it’s on the bottom pitch next to the A20. I’m intrigued that two of the boys, including John, have had the school badge stitched on to their rugby shirts.
This was the first year that rugby union was played as the sole winter sport, after football was dropped much to the disappointment of many.
There were some good players in this team including Richard Henderson, who is in the middle row, second from the left and, on the far right of that row, Patrick Demwell.
We think top row, second left is Charlie Outred and two down from him is Patrick Squires. Next to him is Lech Dziewulski and, far right, with the badge is Mick Roche.
Middle row, far left, is probably Ken Lee.
The faces at the front are all familiar but we don’t have definite names for them. Let’s hope we can name all the players.
Front row left is Jacques Hopkins
