When Bruce Kent came to St Mary’s….and ruffled some feathers

I was saddened recently to learn that Bruce Kent had died at the age of 92.

Kent, who would later become a national figure as a leading voice in the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, has a footnote in the history of St Mary’s as he was the guest-speaker and presenter of prizes at the 1969 awards evening.

The event was held in the main hall at the school on the evening of Friday 5 December 1969, competing that night with The Virginian and the popular Not in Front of the Children, starring Wendy Craig.

The speech day programme gave Kent his full title of The Right Reverend Monsignor Bruce Kent, MA, University of London Catholic Chaplaincy.
