And still the pictures come….

This project has been going for more than three years now and still old boys are supplying pictures that have been lurking in boxes at the back of cupboards for decades.

This late 1960s gem comes from 1963 starter Geoff Howard and it shows the first fifteen rugby team in season 1969/70.

It’s interesting to once again note this kit which was only used for a couple of seasons. For a few seasons, starting in the early 70s, an all black kit was worn before the white with purple hoops jersey arrived circa 1974.

Geoff, who lives in Dartford, was able to supply 13 of the 17 names and we’re hoping that some old boys out there might supply the missing four.

Back row, left to right, Peter Grimes, Dec Dunne, Geoff Howard, Shaun Gibbs, unknown, John Murphy, Chris Lewis-Legge, unknown, ‘Chopper’ Foreman, unknown

Front row: John Webster, John Curran, Mick Norrie, Steve Strangeway, unknown, Chris Miller, Terry Ryall.

At least two of these gentlemen will be attending the launch of ‘We Did Our Homework on the Bus’ on 1 October at the school so maybe Chris Miller and Terry Ryall might be able to fill in the gaps!

Places are limited and filling fast so if you haven’t yet bought a ticket, now is the time to do so.

Some suggestions for three of the four unidentified members of this team. Back row between Shaun Gibbs and John Murphy could be Kevin ‘Spud’ Murphy (I think, not related). Between C. Lewis-Legge and ‘Chopper’ Foreman is possibly Andy Stanley, and in the front row between Steve Strangeway and Chris Miller could be Jim McBride.

Back row between Shaun Gibbs and John Murphy could be Kevin ‘Spud’ Murphy ( I think not related to each other). Between Chris Lewis-Legge and ‘Chopper’ Foreman looks like it could be Andy Stanley. Unknown in the front row could well be Jim McBride. I can’t suggest a name for the remaining ‘unknown’ in the back row.
