The boys of ‘72

Friends Reunited: Lads who joined St Mary’s in September 1972 pictured at the book launch

It’s time for another photograph from the We Did Our Homework On The Bus book launch and what a great photo it is too.

This shows a group of lads who all started at St Mary’s in September 1972 several months before anyone knew that the school would be amalgamating with St Joseph’s Convent.

The picture includes John Arundel and Steve Willis (ex St Stephen’s, Welling and Our Lady of the Rosary, Blackfen respectively) who were part of the launch committee and did so much to make the day the success it was.

Ralph ‘Lemon’ Clayton wins extra points for wearing a Charlton tracksuit top, as does Mark Primarolo for wearing the sixth form colours tie and his special St Mary’s ‘limited edition’ lapel badge.

Also pictured is John Battison who earlier at the school had recounted a chance meeting with the book’s author outside Blackpool FC’s ground, Bloomfield Road. This random meeting played a significant part in the book being written.

Isn’t it great to see pictures like this?
