We had a blast!

When I think ‘1974’ I think Sparks’ ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both of Us’, Holland playing brilliantly in the World Cup and Ronnie Barker’s classic ‘Porridge’ first airing on BBC1.

It was also the year this fine group of men and women started at St Mary’s Grammar, Sidcup and St Joseph’s Convent, Abbey Wood, before the two schools amalgamated in 1979.

Last Saturday they were among almost 300 people who returned to Sidcup for a reunion to mark the launch of ‘We Did Our Homework on The Bus.’

Following the launch in the old school hall, the event moved half a mile away to Sidcup Sports and Social Club where a full bar helped the stories flow.

The picture above was captured by event photographer Steve Willis who started in 1972.

The 1974 starters are, back row, left to right, John Damer, John Mellett, Ken D’Rosario, Kevin McElhinney, Paul Joyce, Patrick Calnan, Jim Jackson, Paul Bensley, Steve Primarolo. Front row, Claire Leonard, Lorraine Miller, Pauline O’Sullivan, Maria Lehane and Debbie Molloy.
